Government/Civic Understandings SS5CG1

The student will explain how a citizen’s rights are protected under the U.S. Constitution.

I looked around the internet for a state to use their 5th grade education standards and found a nicely organized document on Georgia's standards.

Looking through the individual clauses I decided to focus on the standard for understanding the constitution (page 3).

  1. Explain the responsibilities of a citizen.
  2. Explain the freedoms granted and rights protected by the Bill of Rights.
  3. Explain the concept of due process of law and describe how the U.S. Constitution protects a citizen’s rights by due process.
